Gotta GOCCO!

I've just ordered a Gocco Pg-11 machine which is a Japanese printing machine invented in the 1970s. Gocco became immensely popular in Japan and it is estimated that one-third of Japanese households own a Print Gocco system. Print Gocco is a small version of a few elements commonly used in screen printing: the hinge clamps that hold your screen and the exposure unit that frequent printers use to create their screens. The screens themselves have several layers, one solid. The ink goes amidst the layers, and pressure is applied, causing the ink to squeeze out and onto your paper. Just as the Gocco began to blow up in popularity, it was suddenly unavailable. In December 2005, Gocco’s parent company, Riso Kagaku Corporation, announced it would end production of the Gocco system due to low sales in Japan. An Internet campaign, SAVEGOCCO! was started to find a new home for the product. I ordered my Gocco from Printaddict.com

Collage to Screenprint

The top image is a collage that I made in 2nd year at college. I decided to make a screenprint from it by scanning and manipulating it on Photoshop. Kip Gresham, a visiting Printmaker who worked with the likes of Eduardo Paolozzi, gave me some great advice on how to achieve this sort of old photograph effect.

Birds

This is a photo intaglio print with flowers collaged on top.
The following are collages that I made, again in 2nd year. The images are sourced from secondhand 'Flower Arranging' books and wildlife encyclopedias.
